Kia Eyes Fully Autonomous Car by 2030

LAS VEGAS—Movement over, Google, Tesla, Ford … and seemingly every other automobile visitor. Kia wants in on the democratic auto action.

CES 2022 Bug Art The motorcar maker hosted its first-always CES press briefing Tuesday , which kicked off with an ambitious promise: to release partially democratic driving technologies past 2022 and bring a fully democratic car to market by 2030.

To help information technology reach those goals, the company today launched a new sub-brand, dubbed "Drive Wise," for its Avant-garde Driver Aid Systems. Those futuristic systems include: "Highway Autonomous Driving," which can interpret lane markings, allowing the machine to stay in its lane or switch without driver input; "Urban Democratic Driving" for navigating through densely congested environments; and "Preceding Vehicle Following," which helps the machine go on a safe altitude from those ahead.

Other futuristic features Kia is working on include: an "Emergency Stop Organization," which will spotter your eyes and direct the car to a safe place to stop if it sees you're not paying attention; "Traffic Jam Assist," which takes over in congested traffic; and "Democratic Valet Parking," which volition let drivers control their auto into a space—even when they're not sitting in it—correct from a smartphone.

Kia said it'due south planning to initially invest $ii billion past 2022 to develop these new technologies. Meanwhile, the visitor recently obtained a special license to test its new autonomous vehicle technologies on public roads in Nevada.
